Downtown Kalona, mostly located around the 400 block of B Avenue, features about a dozen unique small businesses, including two different antique shops, English River Antiques and Kalona Antique Company, the fine art purveyor The Village Shoppe and a wide variety of eateries and cafes, like the stylish fine Italian restaurant Tuscan Moon and the candy maker Kalona Chocolates.
Kalona Coffee House tweeted me a photo of their handmade scones, and they look delicious, so I suggest you visit them as well to get a frappe, a smoothie or tea.
To the west, it's mostly wide-open prairie filled with tall grasses.

The typical "let's meet at Java House" may be good for a first date, but when it comes to second, third or 25th dates, I've learned that a typical movie date may not be the most captivating.Just across the street from the theater is Korner Kremery, perhaps my favorite ice cream shop in the area.Featuring handmade waffle cones and inventive flavors like Play-Dough — sugar cookie flavor ice cream with cookie dough bites — it's a tasty way to end a day exploring the town.Not far from Title are numerous places to eat inside or near the mall, including Panera Bread — which itself has a roaring fireplace — Pizza Ranch, Avocado Mexican Bar and Grille and Jimmy Jack's Rib Shack. Over 1,500 acres and 9 miles of trails are open to explore.To the east, trails lead through woods around small lakes and end up at a long line of pine trees.
